RE: Fixing water damage on the old Dodge (pics)

John,
It does have a curtain channel that goes around it but that's for once you get where you're going. I'm sure we could make something else for traveling to help that little dash A/C stay happy. :)
We've got a simple curtain that snaps to the left and right of the opening. We use that at night too, though it does leave the cab area exposed to persons looking in, but, they can't see back into the coach.
I'm sure that DW could make up something pretty quickly, with the button snaps, or velcro. On really hot days, I'm sure you could drive with it in place, though we've been running the genset and the house A/C when it's really HOT!!
I hardly noticed a difference in the cameras....but yeah, the 500 wide make for a quicker download too!...compared to the 640!:)

RE: Renting an RV for a family vacation

Judging by the picture, you guys could probably all fly for your vacation...either as Bats, or on a broomstick! LOL!!:B
I also agree that a "C" is the way to go with a family....more bedspace, as well as easier to drive. If you've driven a mini-van, you can drive a "C". Really!!
You will probably do fine with Cruise America. But, where do you want to go? How many miles from home? Depending on the type of trip you want, and what you want to see, might give you reason to change your mind. Most KOA campgrounds offer "Kabins" that you can rent, so if you are planning to stay in one spot, or travel each day, that might be an option to consider...you'd save on the gas by not using an RV.
Also, considering what it might cost to rent for 2-weeks, you might actually want to consider buying. Cruise America does sell their older RVs, and at some pretty good prices. At the end of the two weeks, you'd still have the RV, and many weekend trips in the future. But, you probably need to figure out if you really want to camp first? We bought ours, with the thought that if we didn't like it in a year, we'd sell it....and hopefully wouldn't take too much of a hit! We love it, and don't see selling it any time soon...unless we'll be trading up!
Depending on what type of vehicles you have, you might want to also consider getting a tent-camper, which can be towed behind just about anything, and is a great entry level RV....or a travel trailer. It will allow you to have your vehicle with you when you go places. You won't be towing your car behind a rental! Again, with owning a trailer, you'd have it for a lot more than the 2-week vacation, and a good used one, might not cost any more than what you will pay for the rental unit??
Yes, you've got lots to think about, and there are several threads that have been touched on, with your questions in mind. Do a search for "rentals". You'll read about the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly!!
Have a great search...that will be almost as much fun as the vacation....almost!!:)

RE: The wreck!

A little of the "bubbly" in the driver of the pick-up??
Glad to hear that the RV was OK, and it looks as if the boat was spared too! As for the fence....well, now might be a good time to double check the land survey! LOL!!

RE: The Picken's Plan for RVs?

I often wondered why people didn't mount a smaller version on the front of the RV, so that it would be generating while driving down the road. Seems as if it would be a good idea...and you'd get the batteries all charged up when you got to where you were going....and maybe even when you were there, if wind was working well!!

RE: Should I winterize or not?

I also live on the eastern portion of NC, and haven't winterized just yet, as we are still using the RV. But, I also have the heater set at minimum, so that the RV won't get too cold, and have reduced the chances of pipes freezing during a mild cold snap.
That said, since I am not always home, to monitor the weather, and take care of the water systems for a couple of weeks at a time....I'll be winterizing with the pink stuff prior to the end of the year. Actually, I may just blow the system out....that way, if we decide on a quick weekend trip, I won't have to go and do it all again.
Anyway, it's always better to be safe than sorry!!
Good luck!!

RE: Antifreeze & Blow Lines to Winterize?

I was told that about 1-1/2 gals of A/F will probably be enough, but since you buy it in gallons...what the heck! Walmart has it for about $3.50. The siphon hose mounted between the potable tank and the pump is the best way to do it. This way, you are also getting anti-freeze into the pump, as well as all the lines.
Blowing out the lines may be enough for Alabama winters....I'd talk with others in your area, to see what they do. If you do get temps below 28-degrees, you will probably want the anti-freeze in the traps anyway, so running some through the pipes only takes an additional 5-10 minutes.
Don't forget the outdoor shower, if you have one...and a little in the "city connection" since it's not going to get any from the pump.

RE: Brittany joins the "herd" at the Rainbow Bridge

So sorry to hear of your loss. It is just so hard when we lose these wonderful pets. We had to put down two of our dogs on the same day, and it was brutal! Fortunately, we had 6 others, in addition to the cats, to keep us occupied.....
Love those dogs!
All the best to your family, and as you know, Brittany is running like she hadn't in years...playing on the other side of the bridge....

RE: High blood pressure

I guess it's age related...I was fine until I hit 50...and now I'm on Toprol XL (100mg), Hydrochlorothiazide (25mg), Diovan (160mg) for Blood Pressure. Lipitor (20mg) and an 80mg baby asprin for the blood/cholesterol.
I haven't had problems with any of them, though the little guy isn't quite the muscle man he used to be!:R Still works though! Don't need the little blue pill just yet!
I agree, losing about 20+ pounds and some exercise would probably do me more good, but it's also tougher to lose it...now that I've gotten older. I try to walk more, but don't get out as much as I should!
I don't drink coffee, though do get my caffeine from soda...but don't use salt (I love the Mrs. Dash), smoke, or drink much...and still had elevated blood pressure...go figure?
"White Coat Fever" is pretty common...I usually just take my pressure every time I go to Walmart or a Drugstore...and keep a little record of it in my wallet. Then when I go to the Doctor every few months, I have a better set of numbers for him. He likes it too!
Good luck, but don't worry too much. You are treating it, and that is the first big step! It will take a little while to get it stabilized...I think it took mine about 6 months....but I'm on pretty low doses of each of these meds.
Take care

RE: Fixing water damage on the old Dodge (pics)

Found the advanced post button and the linking device. This is a detailed photo history rebuild thread on a different forum. 'Minor' water damage in cabover leads to rebuild from cab top to back bumper.Apparently the side walls survived in this one.
Enjoy. Believe that seeing this will be encouraging.Luckily here at this forum there has been plenty of practical advice on how to improve a type C camper box.
Freebie
I had just as much fun looking through that one....wow! What a job!
I'd guess that Malcolm might be wondering if he made the right decision to tear his down to flatbead....but, I think it's his was in worse shape, and it was needed! Sounded as if the floor in "Freebie" wasn't too bad.
I love these threads!!:)

RE: NEW GUY! Taking delivery 11NOV, VERY excited...scared?

I'd say that 30% was a good deal...and you got it for 40% off, so that's a great deal.
Bottom line, you're happy....so even if you think you might have paid too much, as I always do when I buy a new car. you will enjoy it, and it will pay for itself every time you go on vacation....Remember, memories are priceless!!
Congratulations!!

RE: RV Toilet Seats

I love that the ads here seem to pick-up on the topic....I'm looking at the banner ad above "Quick Reply" and it's for Shopzilla, and it's got toilet seats....
I'd take the old seat off...and carry it to Home Depot or Lowes, and see what you can find that will match it. If you can't get it off...well, problem solved, you'll be living with it! :-)

RE: Mollie ate it?

Hope that Molly is doing better in the morning....
One of our little Papillons, ate the head of a squirrel...at least we think she did, as the head was missing, and I don't think the cat did it? Anyway, as you can imagine, she was pretty lethargic that eveneing, and pooped several times...but was pretty much her old self in about 24 hours.
Point is, you'd be amazed at what can go through these little guys.....
As you said, the chocolate is pretty much "fake", so the problems with that probably won't be a factor. We had the Vet tell us that a woman had come in, screaming that her dog had eaten a package of Chocolate Chip Cookies....and when she (Vet)read the ingredients, there wasn't an ounce of chocolate in them...and the dog was fine.
The calcium would be more of a concern...probably more so than the foil, as that will pass through. If your Vet isn't too concerned about the Calcium, I wouldn't worry too much...yeah, right!
OK, you can't help yourself...but try to get a good nights sleep, and remain calm for Molly.....she's gonna be fine!!
Keep us posted!!

RE: Gulf Coast Florida, Family Vacation

You forgot to mention just how old the kids are....that could be of importance! :)
We hope to get down to the Crystal River area after the first of the year, and maybe swim with the Manatees. One of the other members of this forum is a guide down there during the winter, and might be able to suggest some places near there. The beauty of the RV is that you can stay in a couple of areas for several days, and really never be bored!
In the Tampa area, you can't go wrong with Busch Gardens, though it's pretty expensive.
Check out the places listed in RV Park Reviews
Have a great trip!!

RE: Is this normal?

Our battery only powers lights, water pump and furnace fan. There are no outlets that will work, its rather frustrating, one would think manufactures would provide one outlet that would work off the battery.
Yes an inverter is needed, we carry an extra battery and small inverter to power a laptop. Battery sits in storage area, wire and inverter is fed under bed to trailer where we can use it, not ideal but works for the few times we want outlet power from a battery.
Once you get an larger inverter hooked up, it will run your outlets. That is what I have in the RV...all the outlets are powered by 110VAC from either the genset, the inverter, or the shore power cord.

RE: Is this normal?

And the lightbulbs that you have in place, are 12VDC....so the "energy savers" won't work either. You can use a regular incandescent bulb in a 12VDC ficture, but you do better with the ones that are made for it.
You can save energy in the lights, by replacing the bulbs with LED bulbs..you can probably find them at Camping World.
Time to buy an inverter...they are cheap enough (under $50) for one that you plug into your cigarette lighter, and it will recharge your phone, run a laptop, or other small load devices. Eventually, you'll want to upgrade to a larger system, to be able to watch TV or use the microwave...this will really draw from your batteries though....and then you will probably want a Genset too.

RE: Does this make sense? Reality check please

Seems as if we have to have something to worry about...last few months, it was the gas prices....and now those have settled down again.....and now, it's the baleouts...or should I say BAIL-outs, since it seems criminal what these companies are doing...and then expecting an assist from Uncle Sam!
I'm waiting for my baleout, when I screw up the checkbook!!
